Mirage, now awaken by the noise and the knopfleri that had tripped over her. She looked down at the two, blinking softly. It had been a long time since she had seen another of her kind.

Kayven stared up at Mirage as she looked down at them. It was a girl, a real, live female. He could tell because her scent, even from here, was intoxicating.
"Um, h-hello," he squeaked nervously, not sure how to act. He backed up besides Xander for emotional protection.

Xander watched Kayven then blinked and gazed up at the tree, taking a moment to locate the female Knopfleri. He smiled in friendly greeting.
Noticing his stripey friend's nervousness and swished his tail round to try reassure him as he took a step forward. He looked up at the tree again, "Hello up there! Name's Xander. Hope we didn't disturb you."
(Mirage is very pretty, by the way. )

Kayven was quiet and wrapped his tail around Xander's, thanking him for the support. He looked up at Mirage and something inside him began to flare up. It was the same feeling he had gotten when Xander had been so mock vicious towards him expect 10 times stronger.
Her scent, her body, her fur, and her beautiful eyes, they all entrapped him until he couldn't move.

Mirage titled her head towards the two. It was strange to see not one but two of her own kind this far out in the world. "What are you two doing here?" She then paused and shook her head.
"I mean hello, I am Mirage." She bounced from limb to limb until she reached the ground with the other two.

"I-I'm Kayven," The orange and gray knopfleri said shyly, his tail curling around Xander for courage, "I'm new to the area so Xander as been watching out for me. What are you doing here Miss Mirage?"
He'd never seen such a beautiful female before although considering he had been sheltered in a zoo he didn't have much experience. Still, Mirage was wonderful.

Xander watched the female Knopfleri come down from the tree, he smiled in a warm and friendly manner. Then he felt Kayven's tail curling round him, so he leaned slightly toward his stripey friend, silently offering reassurance.

Kayven smiled gently, glad for Xander being there.
'Thank you,' he whispered. He knew he could trust the green knopfleri with his life.

(Alright, just doing a quick time jump so Xander can introduce his new baby. So cute. X3)
A whole season has passed, and spring had come to the forest. Kayven sat, rubbing his nose with his paw as he stayed by the lake. He had learned quite a lot from Xander and knew they were the best of friends. Still, when Xander had seen that pretty female, Kayven knew he couldn't follow his friend. So he stayed around the lake, surviving on his own and waiting to see if Xander would come back.

On the other side of the lake from Kayven, a brownish green tail swished above the taller grass and slowly headed towards a berry bush, then suddenly rushed in a different direction as though chasing the small butterfly that had just passed it by.

Kayven looked up, wiggling his nose as he caught a strange smell. He looked out across the lake, remaining quite as he watched the grass sway.

The greenish brown tail waved from side to side as the back of brown ears poked out from the grass, apparently watching the butterfly as it flew out of reach. Then the ears disappeared again and the tail started to move back in the direction of the berry bush, which started to shake violently as its branches were pulled on.

Carefully, Kayven slid into the water of the lake, swimming across towards the rustling. He pulled himself out and shook, sending droplets flying.
"Hello?" he asked.

The brownish green tail stopped moving and held itself completely upright for a moment before running round to hide behind the berry bush.
There was a faint rustle in the nearby undergrowth.

Kayven's ears twitched and he sniffed the air. The tail had been to small for Xander's, even though it was the same color, and for what he coulsd get, it didn't smell like Xander.
"Please don't run away," he said kindly, laying down on his belly to look harmless, "I won't hurt you, I promise. My name's Kayven. What's yours?"
