Xander nodded to Kayven then jumped off the log and moved swiftly through the grass, heading round to one side of the lake. He held his tail high so he could still be seen.
Noelle peered around sleepily.

Kayven followed Xander, still holding Noelle gently in his mouth. He held her low, protecting her as he walked through the long grass after his friend.

Xander scouted ahead, his tail still visible as it swished above the grass. He moved quickly and quietly until he found what he'd been looking for, a tree with scratch marks that indicated he'd been there at some point in the past. He sniffed around the tree first, then crawled into the small hollowed out area under one of the roots, a makeshift burrow from long ago. He rolled around to make sure it smelled like him before he went back out and jumped up on the tree roots to find Kayven and Noelle.
Noelle's tail curled up around her as she stayed still and watched what she could see of their surroundings, her little nose twitched as she searched for her father's scent.

Kayven saw Xander in the tree and followed the other's path to the den. He went inside and placed Noelle gently in the soft, warm den, licking her head and ears.
"There you go, sweetheart," he said kindly, "A safe place for you to sleep."

Xander rubbed up against the tree and any nearby surfaces, making sure his scent was everywhere to try keep others away.
Noelle settled down once she was comfortable and curled up into a little ball as she quickly fell back asleep, relaxed again now that she could smell her father. Her ears twitched faintly as Kayven's voice.

Kayven smiled and licked Noelle's ears once more before leaving the den to guard the entrance. He looked up at Xander, saw what the other knopfleri was doing, and then rubbed his own scent against the den entrance way to help Xander keep others away.

Xander groomed himself to make sure his scent stayed strong, then wandered back and forth around the tree. After a moment, he walked over to Kayven and brushed up against him. Everything had to smell of him before he would relax, that included the other Knopfleri.
Noelle remained fast asleep.

Kayven realized that Xander was marking him to keep him safe so he blushed but held still, his ears flicking back and forth as he listened.

Once Xander was convinced everything smelled of him, he moved away from Kayven and walked around the tree a few more times before coming back. He motioned that he wanted to check on Noelle as his tail swished from side to side.
Noelle rolled over in her sleep.

Kayven nodded and let Xander pass, keeping an eye out for any danger.

Xander quickly crawled in next to Noelle, licking at her as his tail wrapped around them both. He purred softly as he lay down for a while. His ears twitched alertly.
Noelle stirred slightly, grabbing her tail in her front paws and hugging it to her face.

Kayven stayed outside, keeping watch. He knew the area was safe, he had been living here alone for the past season, but you couldn't be to careful. So he stayed outside the den entrance, using his own body to protect Xander and Noelle from the cold wind.

Xander watched Noelle for a while, then his gaze wandered to Kayven for a few minutes before returning to Noelle. He curled around his daughter, purring as he groomed her.
Noelle stayed asleep, an ear twitched slightly.

Kayven heard Xander purring to Noelle and smiled slightly. Other then that, he made no movement or sound.

Xander pressed his nose to Noelle's forehead for a moment, his eyes closed as he listened to her breathing. His ears twitched as he opened his eyes again and glanced at Kayven, "You can come a bit closer you know."
Noelle curled into her father's warmth with a soft sigh.
