"No," Kayven said, smiling a bit while he nibbled a little slower on his carrot halve, "Where ever you go, I'll go. I'm not picky. The humans around here aren't like the ones at the zoo. They aren't...very friendly, so I can't expect any help from them. I'd rather just stick with you."

"Alright. I was thinking of heading to the lake, but it can wait until you've recovered more," Xander explained while sitting up to stretch his front legs. "What's the zoo like?"

Kayven stretched out as well, sighing as he thought the question over. His tail flip flopped gently and then he began speaking.
"It's...safe," he said, "You always have food and the people that come into your enclosure are friendly. You get to sleep in a nice little space with a pillow and when its to hot or to cold they adjust the temperature in there so you aren't uncomfortable. It's also, closed in and it gets boring if they don't move things around enough. There's not much room to run either, not like out here. It's...fresher here and there's a lot more interesting scents."
To prove his point, Kayven sniffed the air, the tree branch and finally the tip of Xander's tail. The smell of the other Knopfleri confused him.

Xander gazed up at the sky and the trees towering above them as he listened, trying to picture a life in a zoo. It seemed to have its good points and its bad points, just like everything else, but it sounded far too confined for his liking.
"Hmm," he responded thoughtfully, his ears twitching idly, "Two sides to everything, nothing's perfect."
He watched Kayven sniffing around, and was mildly amused by the reaction to his scent, which was more than likely mixed with other smells like; warm soil, wild flowers, dead wood, and anything else he may have come into contact with recently, "What? Weren't there other males at the zoo?"

"The only other Knopfleri was my mother," Kayven said, sniffing at Xander's tail some more and trying to figure out the other's scent, "She was with me when I was little but when I moved on to solid food they took me away. I haven't... seen her since."
His ears lowered sadly at the thought of his mother. He was still young, but he could barely remember her. She was a warm, comforting presence in the misty recesses of his mind and he wished he had known her better. He didn't even know what she looked like.

Understanding Kayven's sadness, Xander stood up and moved closer to him in an attempt to be comforting. The brown and green Knopfleri almost completely blended with the tree branch as he settled next to the stripey one. He'd kept his tail still since it was still being sniffed at, so he pawed reassuringly at his friend's shoulder instead.

Kayven smiled sadly and pressed warmly against Xander. The other Knopfleri smelt good and was soft and warm, like Kayven's pillow back home. Of course, Xander was better then a pillow. He was kind too.
"Thank you," Kayven said, settling down with the other Knofleri.

Xander brought his tail around in a sort of friendly hug, his ears twitching alertly as he briefly glanced at some leaves that had moved in the wind, then turned his attention back to Kayven. "Don't worry about it. Feeling any better?"

"Yes, a little," Kayven said, hugging Xander with his tail in return, "I'm getting there. I think we can go if you want. I feel okay."
His ears flicked.

Sniffing the air thoughtfully, Xander looked up at the sky, his ears standing upright for a moment. "That's probably a good idea, I think it might rain. I'd like to get to the lake before it does."
He looked back at Kayven, "You sure you're alright to move?"

"Yes," Kayvan said, getting up with only a little wince, "As long as we don't have to run, I'll be fine."
The truth was that his paws and legs were achy and stiff but his chest didn't hurt to badly and it would be good to walk. The last thing he wanted was for his limbs to freeze up. He walked slowly behind Xander.

Xander nodded and led the way, looking back every few minutes to make sure Kayven was okay as entered some thick bushes. He kept his tail near the stripey Knopfleri's shoulder so they couldn't lose each other. "Wouldn't worry about that, I'm a bigger fan of stealth than running."
Ears twitching, he glanced up a big tree as they passed it, briefly sniffing around its base before making a few scratches then continuing onward.

Kayven sniffed the scratches Xander had made in the tree, looking at them curiously. His ears twitched and he quickly followed the other Knopfleri, hopping lightly over a fallen branch.
"Hey, why did you do that?" he asked curiously, his tail swishing.

Ears tilting up at the question, Xander looked round at Kayven with mild surprise, realizing that there were probably things that came naturally to him that he'd have to teach his new friend.
"It helps me keep track of where I've been and how long ago I was there," he explained patiently as he ducked his head under the thorny branch of an overgrown bush. "You want to try?"

"Okay," Kayven said eagerly, ducking under the same branch. He trotted over to a nearby tree and tried to copy what Xander had done. He sniffed around the tree, his tail held high and when he had gotten back to the front he scratched at the bark with his front paws. His cuts in the bark were deeper then Xander's, and his sniffed at them in disappointment.
He looked at his claws and then looked at Xander's feet. There was no doubt about it, Kayven's claws were longer.
"Did I mess up?" he asked the other Knopfleri, worried about the answer.
