Kayven followed, panting as they went towards the hill. He could see a dark hole in the side of the hill but he stayed with Xander instead of running directly toward the hole on his own. He didn't want to be crushed by a rock but he didn't want to be torn to bits in case a dragon was living in there. He stayed with Xander.

Xander rushed forward, hopping off the side of a tree to launch himself up onto a low hanging branch to try and get his bearings. Sure of his path now, he jumped down next to Kayven, urging him onward as they ran toward the burrow he had been looking for further up the hill.
He slowed as he reached entrance, sticking his head into it first to check for anything hostile, then he backed out and nudged Kayven with his forehead, trying to get him to go first. He glanced back down the hillside, watching worriedly as a tree came crashing down in the distance under the force of the falling rock.

Kayven ran into the burrow, going down deep enough the Xander could safely get inside. He curled up in the small dark place, trembling and worried.
"Hurry," he yelled, his voice echoing, "Hurry, Xander!"
That was when he saw a large rock about to crush his friend. Eyes wide, kayven darted to the mouth of the den, grabbed Xander's tail with his mouth and yanked the other Knopfleri inside the burrow.

Startled by suddenly being pulled backwards by his tail, and then even more so when he saw the rock that had almost hit him, Xander turned and nudged Kayven back deeper into the burrow in a silent sort of almost daze.
Still getting over his shock he wasn't sure what else to do, so he licked at the back of his friends ears to try and calm him.

Kayven twisted around, cuddling against Xander and licking him in return.
"Are you alright?" he asked, curling his tail around the other.

"Yeah, yeah... I'm alright," Xander replied, calming down now. He wrapped his tail around Kayven in response, glancing warily back at the burrow entrance. That had been too close.
He turned his attention back to his friends cuddled against him, "You okay?"

"Mmm, yeah," Kayven said, cuddling with Xander, "I-I'm okay. What do you think cause the r-rock slide?"
The sound of rocks hitting the earth was diminishing but Kayven stayed with Xander. He wouldn't leave until everything was as it should be. He licked Xander's ear gently.

"Dunno, could've been anything really. It doesn't take much to start a slide like that," Xander responded, deep in thought. He blinked and aknowledged Kayven licking his ear, then returned the favor, content to stay put until it was safe enough for them to investigate.
He sniffed briefly at the dirt around them, checking for any sign of a fresh scent. The brown and green Knopfleri was in general a rather dominant male despite his laidback nature and there for wouldn't be worried if another Knopfleri had claimed this burrow before they'd arrived, but he wasn't sure his stripey friend had ever been in that kind of confrontation, so he making sure there wasn't going to be any unexpected surprises coming in to chase them out.

Curious and a little worried about Xander's actions, Kayven bent his head and began sniffing the dirt as well. He sniffed around them, climbing over Xander's back to get at the dirt there too, and wrinkled his nose. He sneezed lightly.
"Do you smell anything?" he asked, sniffling.

Xander looked round when Kayven climbed over him, then laughed when he sneezed.
"Faintly," he answered, taking a second sniff at his surroundings and glancing warily at the entrance again. "but I wouldn't worry 'bout it. Nobody's crazy enough to risk getting hurt in a rock slide for an empty burrow."
And if they were, they'd come face to face with Xander if they tried to come in, as long as he could keep himself between the opening and his stripey friend.

"Alright, I trust you," Kayven said and curled up with Xander again. He ducked his head under the larger Knopfleri's chin and closed his eyes, wanting to sleep a bit. His feet were hurting again.
"When do you think we'll make it to the lake?" he asked sleepily, yawning.

Xander smiled to himself, watching Kayven. "Depend on when it's safe to go back that way. Probably some point tomorrow, or the day after."
He flicked his tail around so it wrapped around them both, and licked at the top of his grey companions head and ears. He'd keep watch while his friend slept.

"Mmm, good," Kayden said, almost purring at Xander's gentle attention. Kayven settled down and began to drift off.
"...mom..." he whispered before he was completely asleep.

Xander paused and gave Kayven a kind look, pressing his nose to the stripey Knopfleri's forehead. He smiled softly to himself as he realized his friend was fast asleep.
He stayed still and quiet, watching the burrow entrance, his ears twitched alertly as he listened for danger. He was used to wandering alone, so the silence didn't bother him.

Kayven cuddled closer, sleeping quietly.
