Xander ran wide circles through the grass in hopes of confusing the bear, his ears flattened and his tail streamed out behind him. Then he bounded away and circled wider before coming around to get closer to the log Noelle had hidden in. He darted towards it, faster than he'd ever run before, and climbed in to push his daughter closer to the centre of the log where it was safer. "Shh. It's alright, shh."
Noelle pressed up against Xander as he nudged her backwards. She stayed quiet only because the sound of the bear didn't seem too far away.

Kayven watched Xander anxiously, furiously trying to decide how to save his friend and his friend's daughter. Turning back to his son, he licked Myren's ear to calm him.
"Stay here," he whispered soothingly, "I'll be right back."
And with that Kayven ran out along the branch and with a angry roar he lept from the branch and landed on the Bear's back, biting and snarling. The bear roared and began to twist and turn, not use to the prey fighting back.

Xander's ears twitched at the increase of noise. He nuzzled Noelle in reassurance before he edged over enough to look out the end of the log. His tail straightened stiffly as he caught a glimpse of Kayven's colourful fur on the bear's back. He glanced back at Noelle, then again at the bear. Then he looked around to see if he could spot Myren.
Noelle huddled into a little ball and stayed very still and quiet, her eyes shut tight.

Myren was curled into a frightened ball at the top of a nearby tree, wedged in the crook of two branches. Kayven was snarling and biting at the bear and the bear was slamming into the tree trucks, trying to dislodge the knopfleri.

Xander crept out of the log and darted towards the tree line. He hid in the longer grasses around the roots, where his fur would help him hide. His tail swished as he took one last glance back at Noelle's hiding place and then up at Myren's. He watched the bear closely for a tense moment, then charged at one of its back legs to try trip it up.
Noelle's ears flattened against her head as she crossed her paws over her face.

The bear roared and it's back knee knocked into Xander, causing it to trip forward. The bear crashed to the ground, momentarily stunned and Kayven raced to Xander's side.
"Quickly, get Noelle and run," he said urgently.

Xander shook his head to clear it after the bear fell. He turned to look at Kayven, he glanced at the bear and back again, then nodded and bounded away toward the log. After he scrabbled his way in, he nudged Noelle with his nose and carefully picked her up by the back of her neck. As soon as he backed out with Noelle, he ran for the tree line.
Noelle stayed tense, but glanced around all over to try to see what was going on while her father carried her.

Kayven hopped off the bear and climbed the tree, grabbing Myren and following Xander to the the tree line. The bear woke up, groggily shaking his head, and decided the knopfleri's weren't worth it. He lumbered away in the opposite direction.

Xander zigzagged through the plants and trees to the relative safety of the thicker, more thorny bushes farther away. He scrapped at the ground near the base of one until there was enough of a dip for him to safely place Noelle the bush without having to worry about the thorns.
Noelle stayed still and moved only when her father nudged her. She watched the tall grass where she thought she'd last seen Kayven's colourful fur.

Kayven raced after Xander, Myren safely in his mouth, dodging the thorns as he went. He soon reached where Xander and Noelle had stopped, breathing heavily. He place his son by Noelle.
"A-Are you or Noelle h-hurt, Xander?" he asked, panting.

Xander sat down and licked at the few minor scratches at the back of his front legs. His ears twitched. His sides moved with his heavy breathing. He looked round at Kayven, then at the little ones for a moment, then back at the stripey male. "We're okay... A bit of a headache, but- but nothing serious... You?"
Noelle watched the adults, her ears still flat against her head. She felt Myren's warmth next to her and so curled up to him.

"Exhausted but alive," Kayven panted, sinking down to the ground, "Where did that bear come from? They don't usually come this way."
Myren curled up with Noelle, frightened but wanting to comfort her. Her warmth helped to ease him so he licked her ears calmingly.

Xander leaned forward and nuzzled the little ones for a little while. His tail wrapped around him as he straightened up again to face Kayven. "Dunno. Might've wandered here if food is scarce elsewhere."
Noelle relaxed slightly.

"I hope that's all it is," Kayven said, moving over and wrapping himself around the children as well to create a warm cocoon around them with Xander, laying his head down, "That scared me. I didn't even hear it moving until it was there."
Myren, feeling both his father's and Uncle Xander's warmth around him, became to calm down. He cuddled with Noelle and sighed in relief.

Xander nodded in response, deep in thought while his gaze drifted over their environment. His ears twitched and he looked round when Kayven lay down. He settled and leaned over a little to provide added warmth and security.
Noelle licked at Myren's ears while they were cuddled close enough.
