"I don't know," Xander answered as he crept slightly closer to the edge of the leaves to look around.
Noelle looked up from her berries and tilted her head. Her ears twitched in mimic of the grown-ups.

Kayven stayed with the children, keeping them safe as he watched Xander move forward.

Xander leaned forward and kept close to the ground as he took a step out from under the bush. His fur would let him blend in for now. He tilted his head one way, then the other, his ears twitched frequently to try pinpoint the source of the noise.
Noelle watched her father for a while, then looked at Kayven. Her head tilted a little while she blinked at him curiously.

With a sudden roar the thing came to a screeching halt a few feet away from the knopfleri. It was a modified motorcycle, the monster truck version of a bike.
A man with brown, up swept hair, a red leather jacket and yellow sun glasses dismounted from the cycle.

Xander tensed and froze in place to avoid notice. He watched the human warily and slowly began to slink back under the bush.

As the man bent down and looked at his bike, Kayven sniffed the air.
"I...know this smell?" he asked, confused and curious all at once, "Xander."

Xander crept back and wrapped himself around the children, nuzzling them and motioning for them to keep quiet. He looked at Kayven with concerned curiosity.
Noelle blinked and pressed herself against her father while she tried to look around to see what was going on.

"Stay here," KAyven whispered, creeping forward into the bush Xander had just left. He sniffed towards the man, catching the man's scent. Yes, he definitely knew this man, and it was a good memory.

Xander moved himself round far enough to prevent the little ones from going anywhere while he watched Kayven. His gaze shifted to the human, then back to Kayven.

Checking to make sure that Xander and the children were alright, he gave him a reassuring nod and crept toward the man, giving little yips.
The man looked down and gasped. He bent down and picked up the knopfleri, looking him over.
"Holy s**t," he said, "Kayven, I haven't seen you since...what are you doing out here?"
Kayven purred and let the man hug him warmly, cuddling up against him.

Xander tensed up when Kayven was lifted out of his sight. His ears twitched, focused on what was happening, while he looked round at the little ones and nuzzled them.
Noelle ignored her father's affections for the time being, and stared in fascination at the large two legged thing beyond the bush.

Xander made a low noise in response to let Kayven know he'd heard. He glanced out at Travis' shoes.
Noelle tried to climb over Xander to go investigate, but Xander shifted and moved her back.

Deciding that Xander was worried about meeting his friend, Kayven looked back and yipped happily at Travis, wiggling his tail. The man chuckled and pet the knopfleri's head gently.
"I'm glad you're safe, man," he said, "When I heard they lost you I feared the worst. But you seem okay, better then okay."

Xander nuzzled Myren to make sure he was okay.
While her father was distracted, Noelle clambered over him and crawled flat along the ground to the edge of the bush. She sniffed at the strange giant creature's "paws" even though she could sense Xander looking at her.
